Temporary email for surveys: when it fits and when it does not
A shop asks for feedback. A class shares a short poll. At the end, the form asks for your email.
First ask: do they need it? If the field is optional, you can leave it blank. That is often the easiest choice.
When a temporary inbox fits
It may fit a one-time survey that sends a quick link to confirm your email. You do not plan to get more messages from the sender.
Check the rules first. Some surveys need a real contact address. Some do not allow temporary email.
Keep it simple
- Read what the form says about your email.
- Skip the field if you can.
- If a short-lived address is allowed, copy one from TossMyMail.
- Watch the inbox for the link. Use it before the timer ends.
Do not use it for a prize
A prize draw may contact the winner days later. A paid survey may send a payment link later too. A 10-minute inbox is a poor fit for both.
Use an address you can keep for rewards, bookings, support replies, and any follow-up you care about.
It does not make the form private
A spare email keeps your main address out of the form. The sender can still see what you type. Your name, age, or other answers may identify you.
Do not share private details just because you used a temporary address. Read the privacy notice and share only what is needed.
Need replies next week?
Use an email alias. It sends mail to your normal inbox and can stay active for longer. TossMyMail expires after 10 minutes unless you add time, up to 30 minutes in all.
Read the email field before you fill it in
- “Email (optional)”: leave it blank if you do not want a reply.
- “Confirm your feedback now”: a temporary inbox may fit if the rules allow it.
- “We may contact you about your answer”: use a lasting address if you want that reply.
- “Enter to win” or “claim a reward”: use an inbox you can still read next week.
Example: a one-time shop feedback form
You rate a visit. The shop needs an email to send one confirmation link. You do not need a reply, reward, or support ticket. If the form allows temporary email, open your inbox, submit the form, and use the link before the timer ends.
If you are reporting a missing order or asking for a refund, this is a support request. Use a lasting inbox so the shop can help you later.
Do not lose a copy of your answer
If your feedback matters, save the text or the confirmation page yourself. A temporary inbox is not a record you can return to. It also does not make your name or answers anonymous.
